Closing Ceremony Highlights

Boo! The London 2012 games have officially ended and unfortunately Australia has come away with the lowest number of medals since the Barcelona games...boo! But in other uplifting-news, the closing ceremony of the London games was epic!! Okay, so we still standby our view that our closing ceremony back in 2000 was the best (bias, us? No) but London's was ah-mazing for two big reasons: Spice Girls and One Direction.

After tantalising us with rumours of a reunion tour, the Spice Girls got over whatever cattiness prevailed all these years and did one hell of a show singing two of their hit songs: "Wannabe" and "Spice Up Your Life.' The 80,000 ceremony crowd went ballistic and so did everyone that was watching most probably – including us!

But it got better.

Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher played "Wonderwall" and we realised how crap our voices really are when singing along. Freddie Mercury made an appearance on screen, before Jessie J and Queen guitarist Brian May led the crowd in a rendition of "We Will Rock You".

Another big name in British music George Michael rose to the stage and saluted the athletes telling them that they were currently "at the centre of the universe" and this cool act was followed by the 90s iconic band The Pet Shop Boys belting out ‘West End Girls'.

But our squeals of delights grew louder when we saw One Direction perform and we're sure that fans all around the globe were squealing with us!

Along with these British pop stars, ear-popping fireworks, a moshpit and a ginormous inflatable octopus, no doubt this closing ceremony one to remember...but ours was still better!

What did you think of the closing ceremony?
